Training Program to Support Renewable Energy Deployment in SIDS

The Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) have jointly organized various workshops and training programs in the past to promote renewable energy deployment in Small Island Developing States. One of major observations from these events was the need for continuous capacity building, for governments’ officials and key stakeholders, on accessing the available financing options. In that context, MOEJ and IRENA jointly organised a five-day training program targeted for the representatives from Fiji, Maldives, Mozambique, Palau and Samoa. The training aimed at supporting the development of project proposals to access climate finance through various entities including the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Climate Investment Funds (CIFs) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
