Capacity Building on Long-Term Energy Planning in the Republic of Cameroon: Final Consultation Workshop

Capacity Building on LTEP Cameroon

IRENA has been supporting the government of Cameroon for the implementation of this capacity building programme to enhance energy planning capacity within national institutions on Long-term planning through training on the SPLAT model and the development of energy scenarios. The programme aims to enable the national working team to prepare a national renewable energy master plan. As part of this programme a series of training workshops were conducted with the first training held on 12-19 July 2021, followed by a second one on 23-27 August 2021. A third training was held on 6-10 December 2021 followed by a fourth training held on 28 Feb-4 March 2022.

The final consultative workshop under this programme took place on 11th November 2022. and was preceded by a pre-workshop meeting in Yaounde on 10th November 2022. The consultative workshop brought together key stakeholders from national institutions such as the Ministry of Water Resources and Energy (MINEE), Cameroon Electricity Company (ENEO Cameroon), Ministry of Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED), Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT), National Society of Electricity Transport (SONATREL), Rural Electrification Agency (AER), to review and discuss the recommendations for the national renewable energy master plan. Over 40 participants from national institutions and other stakeholders (e.g. GIZ, IAEA, and AfDB) joined the meeting in Yaounde.
