Empowering Lives and Livelihoods – Renewables for Climate Action

Empowering Lives and Livelihoods – Renewables for Climate Action, a COP28 initiative of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) aims to raise USD 1 billion towards programmatic support to governments and partner implementing agencies pursuing practical solutions strengthening value chains in the agri-food and health sectors, with a special focus on gender and inclusion. It is a response to addressing climate change and the recent health and geopolitical crises that has exerted additional pressure on the food and health systems. The initiative calls for urgent action particularly to reinforce resilience of communities in least developed countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS). IRENA and UAE are inviting governments, philanthropy organizations, foundations, trusts, and businesses in climate, renewables and sustainability to be an integral part of the year-long campaign towards COP28.

The objective of the event on the 24th of April, 2023 in New York, USA was to highlight the initiative, amplify partnerships and mobilize further support. Attendees included UN Permanent Representatives of IRENA member states, philanthropies, and impact investors.

Attendance was by invitation only.
